Anglia Motor Sport Club was formed in 2012. The inaugural meeting was held at The Swan Inn of Hoxne with Keith Pettitt & Brian Hemmings (West Suffolk Motorsport Club), Martin Newson & Howard Joynt (Sporting Car Club of Norfolk) and Tony & Will Burchnall (Eastern Counties Motor Club) in attendance. The three clubs agreed to pool resources to run a series of AutoSOLO events (two at Tibenham Airfield and four at MOD Waterbeach). The AutoSOLO was new at the time and was basically an Autotest with no reversing and running through a series of numbered gates.
The series was a success and following discussions between Cambridge Car Club, Chelmsford Motor Club, Eastern Counties Motor Club, Falcon Motor Club, King’s Lynn and District Motor Club, Sporting Car Club of Norfolk and West Suffolk Motorsport Club in 2013 Anglia Motor Sport Club was registered with the MSA. These were the seven founding members of the group.
In February 2014 Wickford Auto Club joined the group.
In September 2016 Green Belt Motor Club and Middlesex County Automobile Club joined the group.
In July 2017 Herts County Auto and Aero Club joined the group.
In May 2019 Harrow Car Club joined the group.
In 2023 we were pleased to see Lotus Motor Club join the group.
The purpose in forming the group was to combat the decline of grass roots motor sport in East Anglia. All of the clubs involved were to a greater or lesser extent suffering from lack of competitors, organisers, and marshals for the events that they were running, and needed to pool resources in order to keep the events viable. At the time, the MSA had quite restrictive rules governing who could or could not be invited to club level events, and the idea of an umbrella club was formed as a survival mechanism that would allow us to remain compliant with the rules of Motorsport UK.
Anglia Motor Sport Club has no individual members, just member clubs. The individual members of those clubs can take part in the club level events organised by the other member clubs.
Anglia Motor Sport Club organises both the Rixy Stage Rally and the Snetterton Stage Rally.
In 2024 Anglia Motor Sport Club joined the East Midlands Association of Motor Clubs opening up the Rallies the club runs to their member clubs and members of Anglia Motor Sport Clubs to the East Midlands Member Clubs events.
2022 Anglia Motor Sport Club was proud to be announced as club of the year by Motorsport UK. This achievement came following the great work by the Woman in Grass Roots Motorsport team who developed the 'Better Together' initiative. We were also recognised for the supporting role that Anglia Motor Sport Club offers its member clubs in the promoting new members to grass roots motorsport.
Better Together was developed by a working group within Anglia Motor Sport Club to promote a safe place for all within Motorsport. With this there was a code of conduct produced outfling rules that people should follow to create to ensure motorsport is inclusive for all.
